The government team will not attend the presentation of the metropolitan area this Friday
The Councilor for Sustainable Mobility and Street Cleaning, Carmen Fructuoso, and the Councilor for Economic Management and Citizen Security, Enrique Lorca, appeared this Thursday to “demand once again that the regional government finance public transport in the municipality.” Fructuoso criticized that “the Minister of Development and Infrastructure invites the mayor of Murcia to the presentation of the protocol for the creation of the metropolitan transport area of Murcia when he denies the Murcians financing for the bus service in this municipality.”
“We have assumed an expense of 8 million euros, which is the responsibility of the Autonomous Community, so that the residents of the districts do not run out of buses and now we hope that the regional government will respond to the Murcians and finance this service again,” said the councilwoman The mayor of Sustainable Mobility pointed out that «the Government of López Miras moves in political indecency. It is unacceptable that they have transferred the powers of transport to districts and have kept the 8 million euros.
“The Government of López Miras turns its back on transport in the municipality of Murcia while the Government of Pedro Sánchez has already granted the Murcia City Council nearly two million euros as extraordinary aid for the provision of the public transport service owned by local entities.
“They discriminate against the residents of Murcia”
For this reason, the councilor announced that “neither the mayor nor any councilor from this Government Team will attend the presentation of the metropolitan area tomorrow. We cannot share a photo with those who discriminate against the residents of Murcia.
For his part, Councilman Enrique Lorca pointed out that “this City Council allocates 40 million euros annually to regional competition. Thus, the public transport of districts is joined by others such as the provision of social services, conservation and maintenance of autonomously owned health care centers, creation, maintenance and management of first-cycle public nursery schools, carrying out complementary activities in educational centers, supply and cleaning expenses and activities aimed at promoting health, among others».
“If the Autonomous Community financed its powers in the municipality we could invest an extra 40 million to continue improving the quality of life of Murcia,” said Lorca. The councilman concluded by saying that “the regional government scams and despises Murcians, stealing 40 million euros that belong to the residents of this municipality.”
