One of the most wanted criminals in Russia, Yuri Chekin, accused of contract murder in 2000 of the prosecutor of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (KhMAO) Yuri Bederin, was handed over to the police by his son, Sergei Chekin. About it Znak.com said the suspect’s lawyer Mikhail Purtov.
According to him, his son helped his father organize a refuge in an apartment in Khanty-Mansiysk, from which Chekin Sr. did not leave for several years. His niece Alena was in charge of his life support, she was in the apartment when law enforcement officers raided there to detain the wanted person.
The lawyer said that it was from Alena that he learned about the capture of Chekin Sr. She said that the whereabouts of her father were revealed to the police by Sergei. The lawyer says that he is shocked by the act of Chekin Jr. “I don’t understand why he did it. It was Sergei who at that time pulled this cross to protect his father. There can be many reasons for such an act. Maybe he was led to this. Or he coveted a reward of 1 million rubles from the Ministry of Internal Affairs again, ”Purtov said.
Sources of the publication in law enforcement agencies noted that Chekin Jr. will not receive the money. “He didn’t come voluntarily. I was presented with a fact, then I reported. He will not receive the money, ”the source said.
On October 26, Chekin was arrested after 21 years of search. According to the investigation, in the 90s he headed the control and audit department of the Ministry of Finance in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. At the same time, he had a cooperative, through which, during 1993, he stole 15.6 million rubles belonging to an oil and gas production company. For this, the prosecutor’s office opened a criminal case against Chekin. In retaliation for the criminal prosecution, he ordered the murder of prosecutor Yuri Bederin. On July 25, 2000, he was shot dead near his house.
Chekin also organized in 1996 and 1998 the murder of two acquaintances who tried to cheat him with money. Five killers who carried out the order have already been convicted of these crimes.
