Akard, 26, said on his Twitter account: “With much emotion, I announce that I played my last match in the Red and Black Rennes in Lille” on May 21 last.
The Moroccan international, who was linked by the English and French media to a move to West Ham United in a deal worth between 23 and 35 million euros, added: “It is a difficult decision because I have spent exceptional moments here since I joined the team in August 2020,” coming from Dijon.
And he continued, “Between our discovery together of the Champions League competition, qualifying for the Conference League competition last season, and the difficult qualification for the European League competition this season, the tumultuous atmosphere at Roisson Park against Paris Saint-Germain, Lyon, Leicester City (English) or Marseille, I thank different Club components one by one.
And he added, “My colleagues are with those I fought 80 battles in the last two seasons, who are my second family and will remain so,” before concluding his message, “I did everything in my power from the first day to the last, as in training, inside and outside the field, and I will be your first fan.”
Akard played 31 league games with Rennes this season and scored two goals.
Born in the city of Kenitra (40 km north of the capital, Rabat), Akard is considered a graduate of the Mohammed VI Academy, which is interested in promising talents, after being discovered by its director at the time, Nasser Larget, former director of the Training Center for Marseille Club and currently the coach of the Saudi national team.
He began his professional career with the Al-Fath Rabat team under the supervision of the current coach of Wydad Casablanca, Walid Rekraki, and reached with him the final match of the local cup competition in 2015 and crowned the league title in 2016.
After four seasons, which were crowned with the African Nations Cup for local players with his country in 2018, he moved to the French Dijon ranks and played with him for two seasons before landing in Rennes in the summer of 2020.
