Who wins which test, is the most hungry or has the meanest plans to vote others out? Reporter Dennis Jansen looks in the section Expedition Jansen weekly back on Expedition Robinson in three themes of hunger, hero & heartache.
hunger
She had never eaten a cake on her birthday. Britte Lagcher had been looking forward to this day for days. She had even been awake the night before. Is it day yet? Was she out already? I thought about my daughter who is still (she is 19) counting down the days for weeks. When I hear Britte like this – ‘I turned 32, but on my birthday I will be a child of 6’ – it will continue like this for a while. What a joy it was to see Britte. How she was sung to, how she danced and cheered when she was surprised with cake. And how she already snatched away a kiwi and a piece of brownie. And how, to top it all off, she gave away a piece to presenters Kaj Gorgels and Nicolette Kluijver. Top!
Hero
It is a strange expedition that raises many questions. Why didn’t Yuki (winner of the trial) vote now and Sandra did last week? Why did Britte get a black vote (as a loser) and Rob Geus didn’t last week? Anyway, my fears came true. Wietze de Jager went home himself. Road hero role. Cause: homesickness. The radio DJ listed the things that “did all work”: winning a trial, making a fire, “bored to the bone”, the amalgamation, and getting dinner. He had learned that the little things in life make him happy. “Go to the playground with your children in the cargo bike and eat an ice cream.” His tears moved, sure, but also irritated. First come up with cool plots, vote people out and when it comes down to it, drop out. It’s like playing a World Cup and walking down the field in the quarter-finals. Fie!
heartache
Jan van Halst recently told me that he would like to bring home the door (with the names) of the ‘hotel’ on Winners Island. “Sounds like such a nice keepsake.” It has been granted to him. ‘Who will stop Robinson-Jan?’ I headlined last week. Jan was the Robinson who could do everything. Build, puzzle, win trials. However, things went wrong on the most exciting Island Council of this season. His mischievous face continued to sparkle, but his sports heart was bleeding. What had I to do with him. You will not find them more sympathetic on an island. And just like Loek Peters last week: someone who bears his loss big (‘This was played brilliantly’). Like a winner. On the other hand: a real winner feels even better what is going on. He knows: you have to be careful when you are strong. Jan gardened in it and how! The moon landing staged? Vaccines That Are Secretly Chips? The coronavirus as an escaped biological weapon? 5G? Forget them all, this was just a conspiracy. With Yuki as the mastermind. Jan himself thought that voting was ‘an ugly part of the game’. Not even! This is the most beautiful part. Otherwise, we might as well go and see a Robinson Crusoe play.
