The pilot test of this initiative will be carried out in Santiago el Mayor, Ronda Sur and Patiño
Murcia City Council continues to promote the circular economy in the municipality with the campaign ‘What is waste for you, is a resource for others’. From the Department of Sustainable Mobility and Street Cleaning, together with PreZero Urban Services, a new public awareness campaign is going to be launched to encourage the exchange of goods among Murcians.
The goal is for neighbors to deliver objects that are in good condition but that they no longer use so that they can be recovered and used by other people. In this way, starting next week, the mobile ecopoints located in Santiago el Mayor, Ronda Sur and Patiño will have a new location where, on the one hand, items that are no longer in use can be delivered and, on the other, collect those objects that can be useful to us.

“What we intend is to promote an exchange of items that are no longer used but that can be used by another person, extending their useful life and thus promoting a circular economy of proximity,” said Carmen Fructuoso. During this week, important dissemination work will be carried out, through various channels, to reach the largest population of these three areas.
The councilor added that “it is our actions that decide whether we want an object to be waste or a resource. Taking our special household waste to the Ecopoints for proper treatment is our responsibility towards the environment. Now, in addition, we have the opportunity to extend the life of those things that are in good condition, giving them up so that they have life in other hands».
Visits to one of the six vehicles that travel weekly, in the morning and afternoon, to all the neighborhoods and districts of the municipality, grew considerably in recent years, going from 69,275 in 2019, to 70,415 in 2020 and to 82,039 in 2021. As for the ecopark, in 2019 it received 4,382 visits, in 2020 6,995 and in 2021 8,865.
