Vehicles will be able to circulate from Avenida de Levante (Beniaján) to Zeneta, where it will connect with the ‘highway of the bancal’ towards the Mar Menor
There is already a date for the opening to traffic of the eastern section of the Reguerón highway, which will connect from Levante avenue (in the Beniaján district) to the one known as the bancal highway, in Zeneta: it will be next Thursday, September 9 . This road will serve to streamline and improve the connection between Murcia, the Mar Menor and part of the Alicante coast, as an alternative corridor to Puerto de la Cadena; and it has become one of the most unique, complex and expensive works undertaken by the State Highways Demarcation in the Murcia Region (dependent on the Ministry of Transport and Mobility), due to the characteristics of the land and its functionality.
This section is designed to meet a medium-term demand of 38,000 vehicles per day, according to calculations by the Ministry. The axis starts from Avenida de Levante, in Beniaján, which was opened to traffic in March, to link in Zeneta with the so-called ‘highway of the bank’, the RM-1 that connects with San Javier and the Cartagena-Alicante highway. At this point the construction of the section that will communicate with Santomera is planned and whose execution is in charge of the regional government, although this work is also financed by the Ministry of Transport.
Currently, drivers have to spend more than 20 minutes to travel the distance between the Zeneta junction and the center of Murcia. With the new section, they will be able to access the city much faster, entering the RM-300 (La Azacaya avenue), Miguel Induráin avenue and the Regional Auditorium.
