The order of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to extend the M-12 route Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan to Yekaterinburg is being executed, the work is planned to be completed by 2024. On Wednesday, April 21, the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Savelyev told Izvestia about this.
“The instruction of the President of Russia to extend the M-12 highway Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan to Yekaterinburg is being fulfilled. All work should be completed in 2024, ”he said.
According to Savelyev, the M-12 will unload the M-7 Volga highway and reduce the number of road accidents between Moscow and Kazan and make traffic safer.
As the minister added, the highway will connect the largest regional centers and agglomerations with the network of high-speed roads located in the European part of Russia, and will achieve a significant macroeconomic effect, including an increase in tourist flow, opening new destinations for travelers, developing business and creating new jobs along the entire route of travel.
Saveliev recalled that construction work is being carried out within the framework of the federal project “Europe – Western China” of a comprehensive plan for the modernization and expansion of the trunk infrastructure.
Earlier on Wednesday, Vladimir Putin, during the announcement of a message to the Federal Assembly, said that the highway must be completed in three years. The head of state also pointed out the importance of the development of all territories through which it passes.
In July 2020, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, speaking in Yelabuga at a meeting on the construction of the Europe-Western China highway, announced the start of the Moscow-Kazan highway project.
The 794 km long motorway, which will receive the M-12 number, will unite the four largest agglomerations – Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Samara-Togliatti – and will halve the travel time between Moscow and Kazan.
