In Ukraine, it was allowed to create units of prisoners to dig trenches
In Ukraine, units of prisoners may appear that will build military infrastructure and defensive weapons. Minister of Justice Denis Malyuska spoke about this on air at the all-Ukrainian telethon, writes RIA News.
Commenting on the possibility of mobilizing convicts, the minister noted that this would bring more benefits than risks. According to Malyuska, if the corresponding law is adopted, then this category of conscripts will not necessarily go to fight on the battlefield with weapons in their hands.
“The modern army is not only about shooting with a machine gun… it is a lot of physical work that does not require the use of firearms 24/7,” the minister added.
According to him, units of prisoners can perform the functions of building military infrastructure and protective structures.
Previously, the Verkhovna Rada allowed the mobilization of about ten thousand prisoners. In addition, the chairman of the Servant of the People party, Elena Shulyak, also stated that mobilized convicts will be able to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine in officer positions.
