The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine purchased 50 thousand sets of military uniforms for women. This was stated by the head of the department, Rustem Umerov, his words were quoted by the Ukrainian publication Glavkom on Monday, January 8.
“For the first time, the Ministry of Defense purchased 50 thousand sets of women’s uniforms, 100 thousand electric heating pads, 15 thousand active headphones,” the material says.
According to Umerov, the Ministry of Defense managed to save on the supply of headphones: it spent 11.7 million hryvnia less than originally planned. At the same time, the publication recalled that the Prosecutor General’s Office suspects former officials of the ministry of wasting almost a billion hryvnia on the purchase of low-quality body armor.
Earlier, on December 13, Verkhovna Rada deputy Maryana Bezuglaya proposed mobilizing women for positions in the rear. She said pregnancy would be a unique opportunity to delay. Bezuglaya stressed that the bill on conscription of women will be registered in the Verkhovna Rada within two weeks.
Before this, on December 5, Bezuglaya also called on women to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on a volunteer basis.
At the end of October, retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Lugansk People's Republic Andriy Marochko confirmed that the number of women continues to increase in the ranks of the Ukrainian troops on the front line. According to him, in some units the percentage of girls reaches almost 20%.
Back in September, adviser to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Yan Gagin, noted that in Ukraine women are being encouraged to participate in hostilities due to serious losses in manpower. He emphasized that conscription applies not only to those with military qualifications.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
