During the military special operation to protect civilians in Donbass, Russian officers and soldiers repeatedly demonstrated courage and heroism. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Sunday, March 6, continues to share stories of their courage.
Thus, the division under the command of Major Dmitry Abakumov hit more than 10 combat vehicles and crews of the BM-21 Grad from the Ukrainian nationalist formations. This allowed the offensive to continue. The enemy suffered significant losses, including the destruction of their command post, which contributed to the breakthrough of the units of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR).
Tasks to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics from the first day of the special military operation were also carried out by the commander of the motorized rifle company, junior sergeant Anton Demidov. He discovered the camouflaged firing positions of the rocket artillery battery of Ukrainian nationalists and handed over their coordinates to the command. While the crews were preparing to move to new positions, the sergeant entered into battle with the enemy, creating a diversion by his actions. This made it possible to detain the enemy battery in its original positions, as well as completely destroy it with artillery fire.
In addition, the group led by senior lieutenant Andrey Shapovalov fell into a fire ambush organized by Ukrainian nationalists. The platoon commander organized the defense and entered into an unequal battle with superior enemy forces. Thanks to his competent and confident actions, there were no losses among the group.
On March 5, it became known that the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, signed a decree conferring the title of Hero of the DPR posthumously to the commander of a separate reconnaissance battalion “Sparta” of the guard, Colonel Vladimir Zhoge.
