Technicians from the General Directorate of Energy and Industrial and Mining Activity yesterday entered the El Lirio mining waste facility, where they drew up a record of taking possession of the land. Thus, they executed a sentence issued in April by the Superior Court of Justice, which allows the Autonomous Community to enter this area of Cartagena to carry out the environmental sealing and restoration works, given the risk to public health, the environment and the safety of people and property.
According to sources from the regional area of Minas, whose general director is Horacio Sánchez, “the Community has been able to enter the land of the Portmán Golf companies [suelo de paso] and Tuscola Port to be able to carry out the forced execution of the stabilization and structural security works of El Lirio». And he recalled that this intervention, in the surroundings of La Manga Club, in Los Belones, is carried out “after the refusal of the owner, Tuscola Port, to carry out the work with the aim of avoiding damage to the environment and to people.”
The Minister of Business, Valle Miguélez, described as “very good news that the technicians have finally been able to enter these lands, since the company in charge of carrying out the work will be able to execute the project to provide security in the area.”
The Community finalizes the award of the works to the public company Tragsa. It hopes to start the work this year, which will cost 5.4 million euros. Of them, 4 are from a grant from the Ministry for Ecological Transition. Later, Company will try to recover the money, passing the invoice to the owner.
