The defense departments of Russia and Myanmar have signed an agreement on cooperation in the field of aircraft safety, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reports.
As specified, on behalf of the Russian side, the document was signed by the deputy head of the department, Alexander Fomin.
The document was signed in the presence of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces Min Aung Hline.
We will remind, the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergey Shoigu arrived in Myanmar on an official visit. Earlier, he laid a wreath at the memorial to fallen heroes in the country’s capital, Naypyidaw.
At a meeting with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Shoigu stated that Russia is ready to further intensify relations between the defense departments of the two countries and to develop cooperation in the military-technical sphere.
Since 2001, the Russian Federation has supplied Myanmar with 30 MiG-29 aircraft, 12 combat training Yak-130, 10 Mi-24 and Mi-35P helicopters, eight Pechora-2M anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as other weapons. Maintenance of equipment is carried out in a joint service center established in Myanmar.
In addition, the military from Myanmar regularly participate in the International Army Games and joint combat training events.
