The Murcia Region Mental Health Federation has convened a series of concentrations at the gates of the Palacio de San Esteban every Thursday to demand more investment under the slogan ‘More investment in Mental Health. A necessary right ‘, between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm.
Members of the federation and of the fifteen associations spread throughout the Region of Murcia will gather every Thursday at the gates of San Esteban to demand more resources for Mental Health, very affected after the coronavirus pandemic. The first association to star in the protest this Thursday, September 16, will be Afesmo, based in Molina.
“After the pandemic, the situation of people with serious mental health problems is badly damaged. We have always been quite ignored and often neglected. For this reason, the associative movement of the has the responsibility of making our political representatives and society in general aware of the importance of this deterioration “, explains Delia Topham, president of the Murcia Region Mental Health Federation and Afesmo in Molina.
Among the demands that will be made public at each concentration are the increase in health professionals, as well as the problem with waiting lists and the delay of months for the first appointment. They also call for the eradication of coercive measures and a suicide prevention plan with a free three-digit telephone number.
“Increased and improved care for severe mental disorder with more continuous appointments, community and home care is necessary. Also that the number of professionals and friendly spaces for child and adolescent care grows ”, says Topham. It also calls for increased investment for eating disorders that have worsened during the pandemic.
The regional federation argues that there must be an increase in the number of places to cover the waiting lists of the agency and expedite the procedures due to the delay of months and even years, to process the degree or assign a resource. In addition to increasing the pocket money in residential resources to 350 euros per month and respecting the extraordinary payments.
