Some members of the European Union are beginning to view favorably the migration model that Giorgia Meloni is experiencing in Albania. Spain is not one of them
He Minister of the Interior of ItalyMatteo Piantedosi, has charged against the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, by criticize the immigration policy of Giorgia Meloni’s Executive and completely reject migrant deportation centers outside the European Union.
The Italian minister finds the criticism of a country that, as he has said, “sometimes has shot at immigrants who were trying to cross the border from Morocco into Spain.”
«I think that Spain must take into account the balance of some considerations regarding the specific policies that it applies for the containment of irregular immigration in their territory,” Piantedosi stressed in an interview on the Italian television network La 7.
Precisely this Thursday, Sánchez expressed his outright rejection to the proposal formulated by the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyento create deportation centers for migrants outside the EU, in line with the policy advocated by Meloni, because, in his opinion, it only creates “new problems” and “does not address any,” he said at a press conference at the end of the European Council.
Sánchez has maintained that “orderly, responsible, well-managed migration (…) is the answer to the demographic challenge” that both Spain and the EU face, as well as the way to guarantee economic growth and the welfare state.
