The Bloober Team Development Team has confirmed the requirements from The Medium for PC, a game that many of our readers will know will be exclusive to the next generation, as it will only be available for Xbox Series S-Series X, and for PC.
About half a year ago we had the opportunity to take a preview of its requirements, but we only knew of two variants, the minimum and recommended. The Medium’s requirements to play it in 1440p and 4K had not yet been released, and we also didn’t know what hardware was going to be required to move it with active ray tracing.
Just a few days after its launch (will arrive on January 28), Bloober Team has finally put us out of doubt. We already know the requirements of The Medium to play it in different configurations, and as you may have imagined it is a quite demanding title.
The Medium requirements for 1080p, low quality and 30 FPS
- Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Intel Core i5-6600 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X.
- Memory: 8 GB of RAM.
- Graphics card for 1080p gaming: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB or AMD Radeon R9 390X.
- DirectX: Version 11.
- Storage: 50 GB available space, SSD recommended.
- Sound card: DirectX compatible.
We have a major equivalence error in the CPU, since the Ryzen 5 1500X has four cores and eight threadswhile the Core i5 6600 is limited to four cores and four threads. The closest thing to the first would be a Ryzen 3 1300X.
The Medium requirements for 1080p, medium quality and 30 FPS
- Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Intel Core i5-9600 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
- Memory: 16 GB of RAM.
- Graphics card for 1080p gaming: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT.
- DirectX: Version 11.
- Storage: 50 GB available space, SSD recommended.
- Sound card: DirectX compatible.
We have another error of equivalences at the CPU level, and serious, since the Core i5 9600 has six cores and six threads, and the Ryzen 7 3700X adds 8 cores and 16 threads. The correct equivalency would be a Ryzen 5 3500X.
The RX 5600 XT is more powerful than the GTX 1660 Super. The latter is slightly below a Radeon Vega 56.
The Medium requirements for 1440p, high quality and 30 FPS
- Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Intel Core i5-9600 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
- Memory: 16 GB of RAM.
- Graphics card for 1080p gaming: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT.
- DirectX: Version 11.
- Storage: 50 GB available space, SSD recommended.
- Sound card: DirectX compatible.
We have the same equivalence error at CPU level that we named above.
The Medium requirements for 2160p, high quality and 30 FPS
- Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Intel Core i7 9700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
- Memory: 16 GB of RAM.
- Graphics card for 1080p gaming: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080-RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or AMD Radeon RX 6800.
- DirectX: Version 11.
- Storage: 50 GB available space, SSD recommended.
- Sound card: DirectX compatible.
We see two equivalency errors, one on the CPU and one on the GPU. The Ryzen 7 3700X has 8 cores and 16 threads, while the Core i7 9700 has 8 cores and 8 threads. There is no direct equivalence to the latter.
GPU-wise, the RTX 3060 Ti is more powerful than the RTX 2080, and the RX 6800 is more powerful than both.
The Medium requirements for 1080p, medium quality, ray tracing and 30 FPS
- Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Intel Core i7 9700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
- Memory: 16 GB of RAM.
- Graphics card for 1080p gaming: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super 8GB or AMD Radeon RX 6800.
- DirectX: Version 12.
- Storage: 50 GB of available space. We need SSD.
- Sound card: DirectX compatible.
There is a very serious equivalence error at the GPU level, but it may have an explanation, and that is, due to the impact of ray tracing, the Radeon RX 6800 could lose a lot of performance. In any case, AMD does not have a lower graphics card than the one that supports ray tracing, that is, there is no other minimum, another possible equivalence, at least until the arrival of the RX 6700.
The equivalence error at the CPU level that we had already commented is maintained.
The Medium requirements for 1440p, high quality, ray tracing and 30 FPS
- Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Intel Core i7 9700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
- Memory: 16 GB of RAM.
- Graphics card for 1080p gaming: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080-RTX 3060 Ti 8GB or AMD Radeon RX 6800.
- DirectX: Version 12.
- Storage: 50 GB of available space. We need SSD.
- Sound card: DirectX compatible.
The RTX 3060 Ti is, as we said, more powerful than RTX 2080. By activating ray tracing, the former may outperform the RX 6800. At the CPU level, what we said about the Ryzen 7 3700X, which has more threads than the Core i7 9700, sticks.

- Windows 10 64-bit.
- Processor: Intel Core i7 9700 or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X.
- Memory: 16 GB of RAM.
- Graphics card to play in 1080p: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT.
- DirectX: Version 12.

- Sound card: DirectX compatible.
In this case there are no notable errors at the GPU level, although The RTX 3080 has proven to be more powerful than the RX 6800 XT in 4K resolution. Again, we remind you of what we have already indicated about the equivalences at the CPU level.
Microsoft has re-listed on the Xbox Series X official website than the version of The Medium for that console will have ray tracing, so we can, finally, deny the previous information that pointed to the suppression of this technology in that console for performance reasons.
