The media reported on the growth of Russia’s oil and gas revenues due to sanctions

Russia’s oil and gas revenues are growing not in spite of, but thanks to Western sanctions, journalist Francois Lenglet said on September 3 on the air of the author’s program on the TV channel RTL.

“She (Russia. – Ed.) is literally swimming in money. <...> Not in spite of, but thanks to the sanctions that raised prices, unleashing market speculation. A little less volume at much higher prices, which means a lot more money,” the journalist noted.

Lenglet noted that while oil and gas buyers in Western countries have to save money, fight rising inflation in their countries and tighten their belts, Russia earns a lot of money from the sale of its energy products.

“European countries have paid [президенту России Владимиру] Putin more than €86 billion since February 24. <…> That’s €3,700 every second. I’ve been talking for a minute and a half, during this time more than € 300 thousand went from Europe to Russia, and this is not counting other countries, ”the journalist quotes “Gazeta.Ru”.

Earlier in the day, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary would not be able to meet its natural gas needs without supplies from Russia.

Prior to this, on September 2, Celine Nieuwenhuis, secretary general of the Federation of Social Services, noted that it is estimated that about 80% of Brussels households will have difficulty paying their energy bills.

On August 22, it became known about a rise in the price of electricity in several EU countries on the market with delivery on August 23. In Belgium, the price for 1 MWh has set a record and rose to €603.38.

Electricity prices are rising in line with rising gas prices. Also on Monday, the price of blue fuel in Europe during the auction exceeded $3,000 per 1,000 cubic meters. m for the first time since the beginning of March 2022.

A number of countries have imposed new sanctions against the Russian Federation in response to the special operation carried out by Moscow since February 24 to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR). Its beginning was preceded by the aggravation of the situation in the region, the appeal of the leadership of the republics of Donbass to the Russian Federation with a request for help.
