Candidates for the exam to obtain Spanish nationality come from Spanish-speaking countries.
This information, revealed this Thursday, underlines the importance of this process for many people seeking to legally integrate into Spain. The Cervantes Institute is in charge of preparing this exam, which includes questions about the Constitution, the Government, legislation, culture, history and society of Spain.
The data broken down by nationality highlights that the majority of those registered are Venezuelans, with 129,093 applicants, closely followed by Colombians, who total 125,782. Moroccans also form a significant group, with 91,861 registered.
Exam mostly carried out in Spain
96% of the candidates have taken the exam in Spanish territory, while a minority has chosen to do it from their countries of origin, mainly those with Sephardic roots. In this group, 26,274 people did so in Mexico, 13,525 in Colombia, 11,445 in the United States and 8,527 in Venezuela.
Candidates have 45 minutes to complete the testwhich takes place on the last Thursday of each month, except August and December.
