Plot
Loretta Sage is a reclusive, middle-aged author who writes romance-adventure novels centered on a fictional hero named Dash McMahon, played by cover model Alan Caprison. Her publisher, Beth Hatten, insists that she undertake a book tour with Alan to promote her latest work.
After a disastrous start, mainly due to the popularity of the Alan/Dash character, Loretta reveals that it will be her last book but, after the presentation, she is kidnapped by the eccentric billionaire Abigail Fairfax. He realizes that Loretta based her books on real stories, the result of research conducted with her late archaeologist husband, and that she discovered, as a result, a lost city on a remote Atlantic island. Fairfax is convinced that this is the location of the grave of Taha and her lover, Calaman. The “Crown of Fire” is kept in the tomb, a priceless treasure and, when Loretta refuses to help decipher an ancient treasure map (being an archeology graduate and her husband's former assistant), fearing that the site is close to being destroyed by an active volcano, he narcotizes her and takes her to the island.
Alan, who is secretly in love with Loretta and witnesses her abduction, recruits Jack Trainer, a former Navy SEAL, and arranges to meet him on the island and coordinate a rescue attempt. Thanks to the data from the woman's smartwatch they reach the place where she is held prisoner. Jack, without Alan's assistance, enters the Fairfax compound and frees Loretta, but is shot in the head before he can reach the airport, forcing Loretta and Alan into a stormy escape, first by car and then into the jungle, ultimately remaining without vehicles and telephones.
