The thieves knocked down masts on the line, forcing the road to be closed
Lorca’s PP denounced on Wednesday the third theft of power lines in less than a month in the district of Morata. Councilor Belén Pérez explained that the thieves used a crane truck to hook the public lighting lines and take half a kilometer of cable.
According to Pérez, the event occurred early this Tuesday morning on the D-4 highway, which connects Morata with Mazarrón through the Puerto Muriel area. As a result of the force used, the masts that hold the lines were thrown on the road, forcing the road to be closed to traffic for several hours for safety reasons.
The PP mayor lamented that “thieves can steal without anyone bothering them” and that Morata is “the most affected by the decision of the mayor, Diego José Mateos, to eliminate the presence of the Local Police in our districts.”
For Pérez, “the feeling of insecurity and alarm among the neighbors is increasing because for a long time no agent of the authority has been seen, there are no patrols or controls” and “they feel unprotected and abandoned.”
