The Lorca bullring celebrated 130 years of its inauguration this Wednesday and did so full of scaffolding and workers, who work against the clock to complete its restoration and make its reopening possible in early 2023 as a multifunctional space.
The work of the architect Justo Millán, the Lorca bullring was inaugurated on June 29, 1892 with a celebration in which the bullfighters Rafael Molina ‘Lagartijo’ and Antonio Reverte, figures of the moment, fought.
The Pepín Jiménez bullfighting club installed this Wednesday on the occasion of the anniversary an information table in the Alameda de La Constitución, where it distributed programs with the poster of that legendary celebration.
Also with that of the bullfight with which the restoration of the bullring was celebrated in 1945, in which Luis Miguel Dominguín, Pepín Martín Blazquez and Domingo Ortega fought.
The centenary was celebrated in 1992 with two bullfights in which Pepín Jiménez, Ortega Cano and Miguel Báez Litri and Dámaso González, Roberto Domínguez and Vicente Ruiz El Soro fought.
The president of the rock, Alfonso García, told LA VERDAD that “we want to keep the world of bullfighting alive” even though the bullring is closed for works, and acknowledged that “we are looking forward to seeing a python” in Sutullena.
