The left and Vox have re -joined in the municipal plenary of Leganés to reject the issue of trust that the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Recuencoof the Popular Party, which governs as a minority with Unión by Leganés. The question of trust was linked to budgets, so the 2025 accounts still have no green light. Now, the PSOE, more Madrid, Podemos-Iu and Vox have a month to present a motion of censure signed by the absolute majority of councilors and with a proposal as mayor. If they do not get it, the budgets will be approved automatically and recount will remain at the head of the municipal government.
The vote has been nominal, with this question: “Do you give the trust requested by the mayor, through this motion linked to the approval of the budgets of the Corporation?” They have voted ‘no’ a total of 13 councilors (of the PSOE, more Madrid, Podemos-Iu and Vox) compared to the 12 of the PP and ULEG.
From now on, a period of one month opens so that at least 14 councilors, of a total of 27, present a motion of censure, signed at least by those same 14, which would be an absolute majority, with the proposal of the figure of an alternative mayor. In case of not presenting or rejected in the municipal plenary, the budgets and staff of personnel would be immediately approved.
The extraordinary plenary has begun with a minute of silence, in memory of Jesús Santos, second deputy mayor of Alcorcón and spokesman to win Alcorcón, who died last Sunday victim of cancer. Santos has received praise both to the left and right of the plenary.
The mayor of Leganés, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, has taken the floor at the beginning of the session about his issue of trust to defend his “realistic” budgets. The left and Vox have already voted twice against the municipal public accounts of 2025, which has led the councilor to link its future to the approval of these budgets.
The Leganés government approved the accounts on December 17, 2024, but it is a minority team, formed by the PP and Union by Leganés (ULEG), which has resulted in a rejection of the majority in the plenary, by the votes of the left and Vox.
“The PP shake hands with Unión by Leganés at the beginning of the legislature to put the neighbors ahead,” said the mayor. That agreement added 12 councilors (nine of the PP and three of ULEG). But in the City Council there are 27 councilors, so they need more agreement to be able to approve accounts in the municipal plenary. «This is the last time you all have to get out of your blockade. If not, for a month all the neighbors of Leganés will see what you are: a zero to the left, ”the mayor warned the opposition.
The PP partner in the local government, Carlos Delgado, of Unión by Leganés, has defended the coalition agreement and also the budgets and has warned the opposition that it is not about being right or left. “What this city needs needs common sense and this government has introduced that dose of common sense, and we wanted to reach the agreement.” Therefore, he has blamed the left already to waste time. “The budgets will be approved before and after, and meanwhile, the city stopped, for you.”
The socialist spokesman, Javier Márquez, recalled that it is the first time in history that this City Council debates a matter of trust and also that the PSOE has sought a communication channel with the local government, “but it has not been possible.” He has made it clear that the PSOE, more Madrid and we can “never” will be in a motion of censure: “Smos such as water and oil, we do not marry.” When talking about the budgets, he has assured that they are the most “antisocial” since 1979 and has accused those responsible for the PP and ULEG of being “tweets.” The mayor has removed himself and has accused him of being “the lie with legs.” The socialist spokesman has not stopped there and wanted to paraphrase Pedro Sánchez: «With this spokesman it is not. It is not not the most antisocial budget in the history of democracy in this city »
The spokeswoman for Podemos, Alba Pulido, has been the first to take the floor after the mayor and has made clear its rejection of the budgets and the issue of trust, because the accounts “lack social measures and do not have enough empathy with the neighbors.” “They are right -wing budgets,” he said. The same position has maintained Carlos Javier Poblete, spokesman for more Madrid in this municipality: “In public education 500,000 euros are cut,” he denounced. “And in seniors there is a 15 percent cut.” “The model they present is the antithesis of more Madrid, what do you want us to do?” He asked the mayor. “The time they have lost is because they have not been able to reach an agreement with Vox.”
Vox spokeswoman Beatriz Tejero, reminded the councilor that this “is not another opportunity to approve budgets.” «What you bring here is a matter of trust. It is a failure because it has not been able to reach agreements ». Tejero believes that the budgets “are left -wing” and has set as an example that the gender ideology budget increases 60 percent. In addition, he has accused the PP for pretending that Vox was sold »by five advisors. “And vox is not sold.”
