The health institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Health continue to provide their treatment services to the public during the tropical situation “Shaheen” that some governorates of the Sultanate are currently exposed to.
It was also decided to cut off traffic in the governorates of North and South Al Batinah and not allow movement except for emergency and humanitarian cases, due to the proximity of the eye of the cyclone to the area of its entry to the land and in anticipation of the expected heavy rain, which may reach 500 mm and the intensity of the accompanying winds, and for the sake of the safety of lives.
Currently, the Governorate of Muscat is affected by strong to very fast winds exceeding 45 knots, which intensify with the approach of Hurricane Shaheen.
For his part, the relief and shelter sector of the National Center for Emergency Management stated that 136 shelter centers are equipped in the governorates expected to be affected by the tropical situation, as 45 centers have been activated so far, receiving 2,734 people, including 1,989 citizens and 736 residents.
Ministry of Transportation
In this context, the Omani Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Saeed bin Hammoud Al Maawali affirmed the ministry’s readiness to deal with any damage to the road network through the maintenance teams formed to deal with it.
He stressed the readiness of the ministry represented in the telecommunications sector to respond and deal with any damage in this aspect, and there is continuous communication and coordination with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
He also praised the efforts of the National Center for Early Warning of Multiple Hazards in monitoring and following-up the tropical situation “Shaheen” around the clock.
