The events occurred in the snake islandlocated in the Black Sea, when a Russian warship bombarded the ukrainian troops who defended the territory. The attack left 13 soldiers dead.
According to the local media ‘Ukrayinska Pravda’ (Ukrainian Truth), the russian military they approached the islet and gave the Ukrainian soldiers an ultimatum to surrender and hand over their weapons.
“This is a military warship. This is a Russian military warship. I suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid unnecessary bloodshed and casualties. Otherwise, it will be bombed,” they were warned.
However, one of the Ukrainian soldiers yelled at them: “Russian warship, go to hell!” in response. Immediately afterwards, the bombardments began to which the troops could not react.
The death of the 13 soldiers was publicly announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskywho sent his condolences to the relatives of the victims and praised their bravery in combat.

“All the border guards died heroically but they did not give up. They will be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously,” the president said.
Snake Island, also known as Zmiinyi Island, is located 48 kilometers from the Ukrainian territory and only 45 kilometers from Sulina, Romania.
For this reason, the attack has aroused great concern in the Romanian population.
According to a report by the organization specializing in international affairs, the Atlantic Council, this territory, despite having an area of only 18 hectares, has a strategic location that would be of interest to the Russian government.

However, Russia invests around 154 billion dollars (602 billion Colombian pesos) in military strengthening per year, while Ukraine only spends 11 billion dollars (43 billion pesos), so the difference in power between defense is abysmal.
