Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer of HBO and HBO Max, said the The Last of Us TV series will not air in 2022 and that therefore we will have to wait at least until next year.
“It won’t air in 2022, they’re still filming in Canada. I guess you’ll see it in 2023“Bloys told Deadline. This is undoubtedly a cold shower for fans hoping to see Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in action as Joel and Ellie later this year. On the other hand, Bloys claims to have saw the first few episodes and was very impressed by them.
“I’ve seen some of the early episodes and I’m really excited,” Bloys says. “Craig Mazin did Chernobyl for us, he’s a fantastic writer and director. What I’ve seen looks great, so I’m thrilled, but it’s not coming out in 2022.”
HBO’s The Last of Us TV series is produced in collaboration with PlayStation Productions, a studio formed by Sony to adapt its exclusive first party games into works for the big and small screen.
Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) will be Joel, while Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) will be Ellie. Other cast members are Anna Torv, Merle Dandrige, Nick Offerman, Nico Parker, Gabriel Luna, Jeffrey Pierce and Murray Bartlett. The first season will retrace the events of the original game, released in 2013 exclusively for PS3
