The last of us is one of the most acclaimed video games of recent years, thanks to its emotional survival story starring Joel and Ellie. Now, it will hit the small screen thanks to the HBO network and fans are waiting for the result.
Video games have not had the best adaptations, so several fans were concerned about the project. This changed when Craig Mazin, the creator of Chernobyl, was announced as the show’s producer.
Of all the details of the production that came to light, fans were surprised by the news provided by Damian Petti, president of the artists’ union IATSE 212. In his words, it is the “largest shooting project in the history of Canada”.
Although he did not give specific details, he assured that each episode has a budget of more than 8 figures. That is, a figure greater than 10 million dollars:
“This project far exceeds the eight-figure mark per episode, so there is a multiplier effect on our economy in terms of its impact. There are hundreds of related companies that benefit from the large amount of work, “he explained to CTV News.
What is The last of us about?
The story centers on the relationship between Joel, a smuggler in this new world, and Ellie, a teenage girl who may be key to the cure of a deadly pandemic. Joel is a survivor who is hired to accompany the 14-year-old girl out of a quarantine zone.
What differences will the series have with the video game?
Craig Mazin, the showrunner of the program, explained to the ING portal that the production will take small creative liberties when adapting the video game:
“As for more superficial things, like whether a character should wear the same plaid shirt or the same red shirt, they may or may not appear. That is much less important to us than respecting the core of who these people are and the core of their journey, ”explains Mazin, making it clear that the essence will not be lost.
