Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to suspend the advance of Russian troops as part of a military special operation in the Donbass, pending the start of negotiations with the Ukrainian authorities. “Yesterday afternoon, in connection with the expected negotiations with the Ukrainian leadership, the Supreme Commander and President of Russia ordered the suspension of the advance of the main forces of the Russian troops,” the Russian leader’s spokesman said.
However, Peskov noted, due to the fact that the Ukrainian side refused to negotiate, the advance of Russian units continued on the afternoon of February 26 “in accordance with the plan of the operation.”
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special military operation in the Donbass. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Russia. Kyiv began the evacuation of embassy staff from Moscow.
