The statement by British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab about new calls by British ships into the “waters of Ukraine” raises concern, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He is quoted by TASS Wednesday 7 July.
Peskov noted that the Russian border guards will take all necessary measures in the event that British ships violate the Russian borders in the Crimea region.
“There are no consultations, now, in fact, relations are in such a frostbitten state. Of course, such statements cause our concern, ”said Peskov, answering a question about possible contacts between Moscow and London after the incident.
Earlier, Raab, commenting on the actions of the British Navy destroyer Defender, said that British warships will continue to enter the territorial waters of Ukraine. He stressed that the destroyer had every right to carry out “such a peaceful passage.”
Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on Great Britain “not to meddle” with provocations in the Black Sea. In Crimea, they assured that in the event of a repetition of the provocation, Russia would respond “toughly and adequately.”
The situation in the Black Sea region was aggravated by the situation with the British military ship Defender, which crossed the Russian border on June 23 and entered the territorial waters off Cape Fiolent for three kilometers. The Russian border patrol ship carried out warning fire twice, the Su-24M carried out warning bombing along the path of the destroyer. After that, the Defender left the Russian waters.
