Felipe VI warned this Friday of the “serious risks of polarization” in today’s society and claimed cooperation and multilateralism as the “best tools” to “face global challenges” while urging “do everything possible to make peace and security compatible again” in the international context.
The king has also warned about “dehumanization” and how history warns of the serious risks of denial of the other because of their convictions or beliefs, “because they think, pray or vote differently.”
Felipe VI has explained how, in a “globalized” world of great magnitude and opportunities, among “unimaginable” technological advances, dehumanization is a “latent risk” and has pointed out how the atrocious images of death and desolation that come from the Middle East, Ukraine and Africa, among other places in the world, “force an incessant call for restraint and humanity.”
At the beginning of his speech at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo, the monarch highlighted thehe emotion that it has meant for him that from now on it is Princess Leonor, as honorary president of the Princess of Asturias Foundationwhich is in charge of profiling the award winners, after more than 40 years of holding “the honor and responsibility of praising” the winners at these ceremonies.
