In 2025, the Junta de Andalucía will begin collaboration with the Hunting Observatory, developed by the Artemisan Foundation and the Andalusian Hunting Federation for the monitoring and tracking of populations of game species, according to the draft Budget Law of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia 2025.
The participation of the Board in this vital project to generate scientific arguments that allow defending the sustainable use of species such as the partridge, turtle dove, quail or thrushesamong others, means compliance with another of the agreements reached with the Andalusian Hunting Federation in the Andalusian Pact for Hunting, signed by Juanma Moreno in June 2022.
The Board’s 2025 Budget project not only officially announces the start of this collaboration, but also includes it within the budget item “Studies, projects and plans for the conservation and recovery of species and habitats and their monitoring” scheduled for 2025 with a total investment of 125,000 euros. «Although the budget item assigned to this collaboration is not specifically included, It’s excellent news that the Andalusian Government decides to actively participate in this scientific project promoted by hunters” explains José María Mancheño, president of the Andalusian Hunting Federation, who adds that “above the budgetary investment, this has always been the demand of the FAC and of the Andalusian hunters: that our Administration be part of the Hunting Observatory.
Recovery of Small Game
The 2025 Budget project for Andalusia also includes one of the most important demands of the hunting sector and that the Andalusian federated body has been demanding in recent years: the development of dissemination activities of good agricultural practices respectful of the environment and sustainability.
The allocation of a budget item for this objective materializes the agreement signed at the end of December 2023 between the Andalusian Hunting Federation, the Artemisan Foundation and the Andalusian Agricultural and Fisheries Development Institute (IFAPA) to promote and disseminate practices that allow for reconciliation agricultural profitability and conservation and that have been put into practice in recent years through scientific projects, such as Rufa and Frameworkwhich are applied as a pilot experience in hunting societies of Almargen (Málaga) and Aguilar de la Frontera (Córdoba), respectively.
It is worth remembering that, along with the on-the-ground application of these projects promoted by the Artemisan Foundation, the Andalusian Hunting Federation has dedicated a good part of its efforts and resources to publicizing both projects, getting representatives of the Andalusian Government, groups Parliamentary politicians, agricultural associations and hunting societies visit and learn about these experiences on the ground, which demonstrate that the recovery of small game hunting, priority strategic objective for the Andalusian hunting sectorinvolves the creation of synergies between hunters and farmers in favor of the conservation of biodiversity.
