The head of the Sueca court number 4 has called the organizers of the Medusa music festival, where a 22-year-old man died this summer, to testify as defendants for a crime of reckless homicide. In the early morning of August 13, Cullera, the Valencian town where the event was held, registered a warm outburst that caused a sudden rise in temperature and very strong gusts of wind. Due to this phenomenon, part of the auxiliary structures of the facilities collapsed. One of them caused the death of a young man and injured several dozen attendees.
In addition to the organizers, the judge has also summoned as defendants the managers of the company that carried out the assembly project and the technician who inspected the facilities. He also calls for statements by those responsible for the company that supplied the auxiliary structures, which were the ones that broke or collapsed, and those of the company that assembled these auxiliary structures.
The imputation of the case extends, in addition to the possible crime of reckless homicide, to about twenty crimes of reckless injuries, which respond to the people who were injured and who have appeared in the case.
The judge has made this decision after the technical report commissioned by the court itself in which the expert concludes that there were assembly failures in the anchorages of certain auxiliary structures. The study indicates that the documentation of the activity project was “insufficient” since it did not describe “all those structures considered as auxiliary” and that these were assembled “without supervision of the responsible technicians.” The report maintains that “the anchors failed due to definition and assembly errors.” “Some because they did not exist and others because they were insufficient, with a resistance to tearing that was much lower than the traction force that was needed to resist the traction caused by the wind”, he adds.
