The Court number one of San Javier has acquitted the mayor, José Miguel Luengo, of the crime of threats of which the president of Pleamar, Manuel Reyes, accused him, during the confrontation that occurred between both political opponents on the day of the municipal elections, last 28 May, at the door of a polling station. The complainant stated that the mayor told him: “Politics has a limit, you have crossed it, I am going to come after you, you will crawl towards me.”
The judge notes conflicting versions, since Luengo assured in court that he told Reyes: “Manolo, in politics not everything goes, you have behaved like a scoundrel.” The testimonies of the municipal architect Miguel Botella, the mayor’s wife, Pilar Martínez, and the popular deputy Carlos Albaladejo, have not given credibility to the content of the complaint, from which the judge deduces enmity between the two and does not consider the threats proven.
The trial took place this Tuesday and both the complainant, Manuel Reyes, and the accused, José Miguel Luengo, came to testify. After giving a statement, the mayor of San Javier denied the facts and reserved possible legal action. “We understand that it was to distort or try to influence the result on election day, since he filed a complaint at 5:00 p.m. that did not correspond to anything that had happened,” he said.
