The last time the two coaches crossed paths, Spezia inflicted a heavy defeat on Milan. The Rossoneri coach, however, never loses twice in a row against the same coach
From the lockdown of 2020 to today we have seen a super Milan, at least in Italy: the numbers, the performances, the results obtained, the progress compared to what had happened in previous seasons say so. Even the most positive cycles, however, can experience some setbacks. And among Stefano Pioli’s “bad days” since he coached the Rossoneri, one of the blackest has materialized in La Spezia nine months ago. On February 13th, the Devil first in the standings clearly lost 2-0 to the team then coached by Vincenzo Italiano: the same technician who will lead Fiorentina against Milan tonight, hoping to repeat the feat of the Peak, when the unleashed Maggiore and Batons found the match goals.
Never twice
–
The Rossoneri Pioli, however, have never lost twice in a row against the same coach. He was able to find the countermeasures to correct the shot against Gasperini and his Atalanta, Pirlo and his Juve, Galtier and his Lilla: all technicians who had defeated him. And if we want to stay in more recent matches, before the break he managed to avoid the knockout against Conceicao (Porto) and Simone Inzaghi (Inter) who had beaten him in the last direct match. The calendar now puts Pioli in front of two new opportunities for revenge: against Italian, in fact, and against Cholo Simeone in an Atletico-Milan that will bring with it the controversy of the first leg for the refereeing of Cakir.
Incomplete
–
Certainly, the first quality that Italiano and Pioli will have to show is the ability to adapt to an emergency. Because tonight, between injuries and suspensions they will not be able to field the starting line-up. The Viola have to give up on goalkeeper Dragowski and have three central players out of action (Nastasic unavailable, Quarta and Milenkovic suspended), the Rossoneri have also lost Rebic in training on the eve and are without Maignan and Calabria. The tactical certainties remain: Fiorentina with their 4-3-3, which becomes 4-1-4-1 in some parts of the match; Milan with the untouchable 4-2-3-1 “Pioliano”. Game systems, numbers that coaches always invite to take with a grain of salt, because then mechanisms and movements count. This is where the game of chess is played. And Pioli has no desire to take another Italian lesson.
