‘The Departed’, the film starring Carolina Yuste and Luis Tosar, and directed by Arancha Echevarriawhich narrates the infiltration of ETA by a young national police force, has brought theaters to 621,000 people in just 17 daysaccording to sector data, which also highlights that one of the communities where this ‘thriller’ has had the most follow-up and expectation is the Basque Country, where it is among the three most viewed. Many of its cinemas have been full and this success is demonstrated by the fact that the income from there represents between 8 and 10 percent of the total receipts in Spain as a whole, despite having fewer theaters per inhabitant than other communities such as Catalonia, Madrid or Andalusia.
the movie tells how, thanks to the eight years of the infiltrator’s work, the Police were able to dismantle the Donosti commandowhich was preparing a dozen murders, and inform the Government that the truce declared at the end of the 90s by ETA was nothing more than a trap to reorganize and launch the largest possible offensive.
The Foundation for Victims of TerrorismCovite and the family of Gregorio Ordóñez, as well as leaders in the fight against ETA such as Mikel Buesa, a very prominent member of the Ermua Forum, have shown their support and gratitude for how the film treats the terrorist phenomenon, seen in this case from the perspective of the police fight against the gang.
‘The Departed’ is a special case at a time when there is an obvious crisis among viewers. This is demonstrated by the fact that this is the ‘most watched thriller since 2016when ‘One Hundred Years of Forgiveness’ was released, in which Luis Tosar also participated. However, the figures for both films are practically on par. ‘Celda 211’, also starring the Galician actor and released in 2009, also achieved a similar number of viewers in the same period of time.
In the coming days ABC.es will exclusively broadcast the ‘make in off’ of the filmwhich offers, among others, the testimonies of two of the police officers who carried out the operation, among them the one who planned it and acted as the infiltrator’s controller, but also that of the protagonists, Luis Tosar and Carolina Yuste.
