See under the heading cover up. The best thing about the case Matteo Renzi, is a journalistic mood well told from the front page of Free of today: “Revenge of the prosecutors: Renzi investigated“.
An extraordinary title because it reveals a certain mood, a sentiment of the media, the effects of an excellent misdirection campaign, the great desire to fake news that the lords of information treat almost unwillingly. Renzi he is again under investigation, and the fault, according to the friendly newspapers, is not his own, or of a charge that should at least be verified, but of his presumed toga persecutors. And here is the fact (to say the least sensational) obscured in the public account of this story.
The magistrates found that Renzi took from friend’s agency Lucio Presta 700 thousand euros by signing a contract for three television programs: the first, a documentary, was made (but we will soon find out at what price). The other two programs, however, after four years have never seen the light.
The first, about which at the time there were tales of a terrific auction, was sold. But the prosecutors also discovered that the contract figure is…. One thousand Euro. Another interesting news: this bill was never paid. Hence, the theoretical balance of the agency Lend and this: 700 thousand euros data to the former premier. Theoretical collection for this enterprise: one thousand euros. Real accounting receipt: zero. Not bad, right? If we were in the world of fairy tales, we could say: perhaps it is an investment that has gone wrong. In the real world, you have to ask yourself a question.
Instead the story disappears, drowned by the usual Renzian victim story. Here it is The Republic, in perfect style Gedi: “Those investigations that keep the former prime minister on the grill”. So the fault is “of the inquiries”, not of these dancing numbers. And immediately after, always in the title, there is the quotation mark of the martyr of Italy Viva: “But nobody scares me”. obviously Renzi he is careful not to explain or clarify: “Everything is in order,” he says. What, please?
Also the newspaper seems in line with the Leopoldine press office: “Attack the togas, Renzi under investigation “. So he is a victim with intent: he is not under investigation for these saucy budgets, but because the (bad) robes obviously want to avenge themselves. Renzi martyr to freedom of opinion, persecuted only because he threatened to sign radical referendums: and in reality, to see well, if the robes were cunning they should rejoice: the support of Renzi, after 2016, it is a good guarantee to make a referendum question fail.
But let’s go back to the press review. Only with the Courier service of the Evening you breathe a sigh of relief, because the headline of the newspaper via Solferino is unexceptionable: “Renzi is Lend under investigation for the documentary on Florence: illicit financing ”. Here, the theme that disappears from the debate is this: someone gave 700 thousand euros to Renzi, without earning a single euro in exchange.
But since Renzi he was Prime Minister, he administered the public affairs, he managed the appointments in Rai, if someone pays it 700 thousand euros, more than Alberto Angela, for a documentary that costs it one thousand, some questions are right to ask.
Especially because the history of this million euro of the leader of Italy Viva does not begin with this warranty notice. It starts on January 18, 2018 when, guest of Nicola Porro in an episode of Matrix in the middle of the election campaign, Renzi he says to the reporter: “I’ll show you my bank account statement!”. The coup de theater is perfect: in the balance we read that the former prime minister can only count on 15,859 euros.
Too bad that five months later, The truth reveal that the man of Rignano is buying a Florence a villa worth 1.3 million euros. And that the news causes quite a stir, if it is true that the spouses Renzi in those days they still pay a monthly payment of 4,250 euros for the mortgage of their old house Pontassieve (which at the time has not yet been sold).
Where, then, does the money for the villa in Florence come from? Mystery. Renzi, inaugurating his strategy, he does not say so. Complaints about an intrusion into his private life (even then) explains that he sells his villa Pontassieve. And he says: “I was elected parliamentarian and I get an excellent salary. Having no more government activities – he adds – I can have additional income and even take out a mortgage ”.
The newspapers are satisfied with this explanation, the super-purchase is no longer talked about. Renzi you also buy one Mini Cooper from 29 thousand euros, while from the statement of assets we learn that in 2017 he earned only 29 thousand euros gross. But that’s not all: in November 2019, an investigation by Emanuele Fittipaldi, up L’Espresso, reveals where that money came from.
In order to stipulate the deed, Renzi (he had been careful not to say it), he had obtained a very generous loan and difficult to decrypt at first sight thanks to the money received from the mother of a Florentine entrepreneur. It is about Riccardo Maestrelli, who in the past was a generous financier of the Renzian foundation and who, thanks to the Prime Minister, was appointed to the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. From the family Maestrelli they have arrived (pay attention to the figure) 700 thousand euros.
At the beginning Renzi harsh reply to all the news: “I have returned everything, I will report L’Espresso for violation of banking secrecy “.
But in the meantime the case mounts and becomes very embarrassing. Without the bank’s reporting of anti-corruption legislation, the movement of money would not have been tracked. And so the former premier is forced to make a new correction of the shot: “Having to make a bank advance, I made a private agreement with a loan granted and repaid within a few months, about four months”.
To get rid of the embarrassment of a case that has a double political and economic value, in short, Renzi it needs a very important figure. And where does he go to get it? From Lend, of course: in this way one cannot understand the importance of this investigation, if one does not understand that that “television” contract was already a huge “ATM” with which the former president healed the situation after a thousand controversies.
If only because the path had been this: the money in the elderly lady’s current account, which had been used for the loan to Renzi, came from Savings Bank of Florence, and they came from Pida spa. And what was the Pida? A Florentine holding company founded by the husband of the mother of Maestrelli and in those years managed by the three children of the lady and by herself Anna Picchioni. There Pida he had not entered the loan in his balance sheet.
The purpose of the transfer was: “Payment on purchase account 25 participation in Mega srl”. The name of Renzi it didn’t appear in any way. The day after this operation a transfer of the same amount had been made, from that same account, to another opened by the leader of Italy Viva at the Banco di Napoli.
On June 13, the two spouses Renzi, withdrew the funds asking for 4 checks for 100 thousand euros each which would be used to pay the deposit. The day before he went to buy his 1.3 million euro villa, therefore, Renzi he didn’t have a single euro for the down payment.
Only on the eve of the purchase does he collect this amount, with which he disposes of the aforementioned checks. When he finds himself under the risk of an investigation and a controversy and must somehow resolve the issue of the loan, honoring it, Renzi obtains with perfect timing the providential contract of Lend.
This is why there is no persecution against him: not a line of spurious inquiries, but a single path around a single problem. In short, the lenders change, but the money is always the same. Here because Renzi he has no pretext to feed his victim crying.
Obviously he can always say that the journalists who investigate his resources do so “out of envy”, as his supporters write on social media. And this is the only certain thing: I too – in fact – would like to buy myself a villa and have a friend who lends me 700 thousand euros to do it.
