Obviously, the ultra-smooth design of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 divided opinion when it was unveiled just a few weeks ago. If you weren’t convinced then, we’re pretty sure the Hyundai RN22e will make you change your mind. It’s essentially an Ioniq 6 in full race outfit and it looks absolutely fantastic.
It’s worth noting that Hyundai has now also confirmed that its first all-electric N car, the Ioniq 5 N, will be launched in 2023. The N line is what AMG is to Mercedes or RS to Audi. They are the fastest and sportiest models in the line-up. You can see this Hyundai RN22e as the harbinger of an Ioniq 6 N.
The power comes from two electric motors (one on each axle) and in total this Hyundai RN22e gets 585 hp and 740 Nm. Enough work has been done on the brakes and cooling to enable the Hyundai RN22e to consistently set lap times without sacrificing performance. No word on things like 0-100 times, but Hyundai does admit its top speed is somewhere north of 250km/h.
The Hyundai RN22e vibrates more than a normal EV
The N division is also developing something they call N Sound+, which will apparently provide an “emotional driving experience for electrified models.” Essentially, it’s just a performance-based sound that Hyundai can pump through internal and external speakers. There’s also apparently ‘N e-shift’ that works with the sound to provide the feel and vibration normally associated with a gearshift. Interesting.
