The route between Armenia and Georgia was closed due to the Debed River overflowing its banks
In the Lori region of Armenia, the Debed River overflowed its banks, because of this the interstate road to Georgia was closed in both directions. This was reported in the road department of the republic, reports TASS.
The department noted that due to heavy rains the road was damaged; drivers were advised to use other routes to get to the border with Georgia.
Footage was distributed on Armenian social networks showing that the river flooded residential buildings in the city of Alaverdi near the border. Users also spoke about the large scale of the natural disaster.
In northern Armenia, roads and bridges were destroyed as a result of flooding, and dozens of people had to be evacuated. The country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said that there was one death.
Earlier it was reported that the popular ski resorts of Sochi were in danger. Rosa Khutor, Krasnaya Polyana and Gazprom Polyana closed some routes due to possible avalanches.
