The young art room (Avda. De América, 13) presents the exhibition ‘The iguanas are going to bite the men who do not dream’one of the winning projects of the XVI Edition of the National Team ‘is sought commissioner’, which is committed to new models … curatorial, facilitating access to the professional world of young commissioners.
The sample, curated by Raquel Algaba, which can be visited until April 20 for free from Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We and that, without us being aware of it, they are backward to the forces of nature, to the continuum oscillate between the past, the present and the future that exists in vital cycles », Define Algaba. The works that compose it, in charge of five artists and mostly sculptural facilitiesthey refer, thanks to the hidden symbology of their materials, to myth or folklore, “to offer us a resistance to the current order of things, positioning both critically and in the quality of new organizing forms of the world.”
On the ground floor, the artist Mónica Mays With its piece ‘ornamental Without Value’ presents a large sculpture as a mastodontic, report and primitive icon. «If we pay special attention, we will see that this has been built, among other remains, with palm leaves. The unusable waste, with hardly any economic value, that our society discards after the extraction of its blood, the oil, which functions as an industry engine ».
WEIXIN QUK CHONG It is inspired by the funeral rituals of the Han dynasty for its installation ‘Immortaly Masks’ recovering the lost memory of deities and cult figures placing them in a society where the show, pleasure and liquid corporality give us new idols, more confusing and less Stable, but that seem to establish a more direct speech to our closest needs. Sandra Valin its installation ‘Agón’ resorts to the Egyptian game of ‘dogs and jackals’ to tell us about architectural constructions as a means of limiting and understanding the world, and, in turn, to nature and our relationship with it.
On the upper floor of the exhibition, the artist Emmanuela Soria Ruiz It presents ‘Fire and Fuga’, two textile pieces that point to a feminist and post-humanist reading of the myth of the daughters of MINIAS in the ‘Metamorphosis of Ovid’: These textile sculptures-cortinins that suggest both concealment and transit-capture a moment of rupture: the flight and disaster prior to the metamorphosis of the sisters in bats, and invites you to think about the relationship between body, materiality and mutation, and disasters that precede all metamorphosis.
Finally, in ‘The construction of meat’, Paloma de la Cruz He faces the visitor to «a living bee that the body has modeled to fit in them ».
The call ‘is sought commissioner’ is an initiative of the Community of Madrid that bets on the visibility of emerging creation and talent of young creators, and facilitates access to the professional world to commissioners under 35 years to develop their projects in the Young art room. Since its inception in 2009, about 50 of these professionals and more than 140 artists have benefited from this proposal that is part of the aid and scholarship program to the emerging visual arts of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Sports.
A line of work that materializes in the promotion of the creation and training of these new artists and commissioners, which also includes the photolibro project <40 or the call for plastic arts circuits, among others.
