Former President Valcárcel could follow in his footsteps, but it was Pedro Antonio Sánchez who, at the end of September, became the first head of the regional Executive to sit on the bench. The trial for the ‘Auditorium case’, in which Sánchez faces, for the moment, two and a half years in prison and another 19 years of disqualification, will continue today with new testimonies.
After the statements of the four defendants and the testimony of some municipal technicians, today it is the turn of several of the councilors who assumed responsibilities between 2006 and 2011, when these alleged irregularities occurred in the adjudication and construction process that were developed around the theater-auditorium of Puerto Lumbreras.
On this day, it is expected that some more municipal technicians and the former councilors of Commerce, Industry and Environment, Rural Development, Security and Emergencies and two who were in charge of the Culture area will testify before the court. Some of them were charged in this case, although finally they did not have to sit on the bench.
Until November 29, when this hearing is scheduled to end, there are still many statements that the magistrates of the Court will have to hear. The next week the intervention of the former Councilor for Works was scheduled, who signed some of the documents of the procedure and to which former President Sánchez pointed, at some point in his statement, as responsible for the project. This mayor, however, passed away in 2019. After the parade of witnesses, which will occupy numerous days, the Court has reserved a day –in principle that of November 22– for the experts.
