Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei in an interview with RT said about attempts by external forces to make the country a “second Ukraine”.
“I think the goal was – I mean the goal of those who organized the relevant actions in Belarus – was to create a second Ukraine here. So it was much hotter and much hotter. And then transfer this experience to Russia, ”Makei said.
According to the minister, Russia is turning into a powerful world power, which is absolutely unacceptable for the West.
“And all the events that took place in Belarus are the result of this geopolitical collision. We just ended up on this fault, let’s say, at the wrong time, ”he added.
On August 9, 2020, presidential elections were held in Belarus. The CEC announced that Alexander Lukashenko, who ran for a sixth term, won 80 percent of the vote. This sparked massive protests that lasted several months. Lukashenka claimed that the West was behind them and wanted to destroy Belarus. He also accused Ukraine of involvement in the organizations of the unrest.
On July 2, Lukashenko announced that Kiev had participated in the creation of “sleeping” terrorist cells in Belarus. He ordered to close the border with Ukraine, from where, according to him, a lot of weapons come.
