The head of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN), Alexander Kalashnikov, spoke at the opening ceremony of sambo competitions in the Moscow Region on Saturday, November 20.
Teams of ministries and security departments of the Russian Federation will take part in the Open Cup of the Director of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in sambo.
Kalashnikov greeted the participants of the competition and noted that sambo is a national sport in Russia.
“Sambo unites, it brings up the best qualities in our athletes, each participant: courage, willpower, perseverance in struggle, team spirit. Thanks to this sport, the person who owns it, in the most critical and difficult situations, always makes the best decision to protect himself and those around him, in order to complete the task set in full, ”the head of the department said.
He also expressed hope that the participants will show “the highest, most beautiful results.”
“I am grateful to the leadership, our departments, which sent teams to participate in the cup. I hope that the guys will please themselves and the audience, ”said Kalashnikov.
Competitions were held in three categories: sports, combat and women. Fifty athletes from 27 regions of Russia took part. The judges evaluated the athletes according to international rules.
The first place was taken by the FSIN team, the second – by the Ministry of Defense, the third – by the National Guard.
On July 20, at the session of the International Olympic Committee in Tokyo, the International SAMBO Federation received permanent recognition from the committee. Lacrosse, kickboxing, muay thai, icestock and cheerleading have also been recognized.
Commenting on this decision, the President of the All-Russian Sambo Federation Sergei Eliseev noted that thanks to the recognition, additional funds will be allocated for the development of sambo. He also expressed hope that SAMBO will be included in the competition program at the next Olympic Games.
