The first novel by Carmen Mola, a pseudonym behind which Agustín Martínez, Jorge Díaz and Antonio Mercero Jr. have been hiding until very recently, ‘The Gypsy Bride’, the great publishing phenomenon of recent years, will become a television series , directed by Paco Cabezas (‘Penny Dreadful’, ‘Umbrella Academy’, ‘American Gods’, ‘The Alienist’, ‘Adiós’) for Atresplayer Premium.
As is known ‘Carmen Mola’ has been the pseudonym used by Agustín Martínez, Jorge Díaz and Antonio Mercero Jr. for a police trilogy starring inspector Elena Blanco (who will be played on screen by Nerea Barros). ‘The Gypsy Bride’ continued with ‘La Red Purple’ and ‘La Nena’, a trilogy of international success published in 10 countries. The writers and screenwriters hidden behind ‘Carmen Mola’ have recently won the Planeta Award for ‘The Beast’, which, in addition to a million euros to be distributed among its authors, forced them to reveal their identities.
This television series adaptation of ‘The Gypsy Bride’ will feature José Rodríguez and Antonio Mercero as script coordinators. In it, Nerea Barros will play Elena Blanco, a veteran BAC (Case Analysis Brigade) inspector, an intelligent woman obsessed with work, tormented by a dark event from her past and willing to do anything to solve a case full of cruelty. In the pain of the Macaya family, parents of two young women murdered 6 years apart, Inspector Elena will be sadly reflected. She and her team will be in charge of looking for the person responsible for a macabre ritual. Nerea will be accompanied in the cast by actors Darío Grandinetti, Vicente Romero, Ignacio Montes, Mona Martínez, Lucía Martín Abelló, Francesc Garrido and Ginés García Millán, among others.
This new fiction will be produced by Diagonal TV (Banijay Iberia) and Viacom CBS International Studios (VIS) for Atresmedia, and filming will begin in early January. They will be with eight 50-minute episodes directed by Paco Cabezas. It is foreseeable that, if its television adaptation ‘The Gypsy Bride’ is successful, the other two novels with inspector Elena Blanco will also jump to the small screen.
