The G7 countries are holding discussions on a huge aid package for Ukraine amounting to $50 billion, which is proposed to be financed with proceeds from frozen Russian assets, according to US media reports.
The United States is seeking to reach an agreement on the use of frozen Russian assets when leaders meet in Italy next June, noting that discussions on this issue are difficult, and that reaching an agreement may take months.
The G7 countries froze about $280 billion of the assets of the Russian Central Bank, with the majority of these assets kept in Europe through the Belgium-based clearing company Euroclear, according to reports.
Meanwhile, the Russian Interior Ministry included Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and former President Petro Poroshenko on the most wanted list in its database.
The ministry’s database indicates that Vladimir Zelensky is wanted under an article of the Russian Criminal Code, according to the Russian Sputnik news agency. Poroshenko was also included on Russia’s most wanted list.
It is noteworthy that Zelensky’s powers as president granted to him by the constitution expire on May 21. Poroshenko served as President of Ukraine from 2014 to 2019. During this May, the Russian Interior Ministry placed several Ukrainian political figures on the wanted list, led by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Litvinenko, the former Minister of Justice of Ukraine Pavel Petrenko, and the former President of the Security Service of Ukraine Valentin Nalyvychenko, former Minister of Finance of Ukraine Alexander Shlapak, and former head of the National Bank of Ukraine Stepan Kopyev.
On the ground, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced yesterday that its air defenses shot down four long-range missiles over the Crimean Peninsula, which are weapons known as the military tactical missile system that the United States sent to Ukraine in the past few weeks.
The ministry later stated that Russian aircraft and air defense systems shot down 15 missiles from the tactical missile system last week.
Last Tuesday, Russian officials said that Ukraine attacked Crimea with a tactical missile system in an attempt to penetrate Russian air defenses on the Moscow-controlled peninsula, and they added that 6 missiles had been shot down.
