Artificial Intelligence is far beyond what we as users know and use, that is, creating texts or images is very good, but the capabilities of this technology are so many that they are being used in different sectors for work and research that can revolutionize the world when it comes to scientific, healthcare or space research environments, to give a few examples.

This is often because just like writing a 500-word text, AI takes a few seconds and a person can take an hour or more, for the rest of the things this technology is much faster, which means that it allows us to advance. much faster.

The rapid growth of this technology in recent years has been great news for researchers and scientists, since with AI they are managing to discover and reach conclusions that would have taken them years to reach. A clear example of this is the news echoed by the scientific magazine Cell, which announces what has been the greatest discovery of AI applied in science so far.

This is because using machine learning, a group of scientists have discovered thanks to AI 161,979 new species of RNA viruses. RNA (ribonucleic acid) viruses They are infectious agents that contain single or double-stranded RNA genetic material, which they need to reproduce.

One of the participants in this research, professor at the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney, Edwards Holmes, assured that despite being considered the greatest discovery to date, “We are just scratching the surface” as there are still millions of viruses yet to be identified.

Although these viruses are generally associated with diseases, researchers explain that they also have a facet of key agents in ecosystems with extreme conditions such as the atmosphere or hot springs. The truth is that these viruses were not exactly unknown, most were already sequenced, however, they were considered part of dark matter, but thanks to AI it has been revealed that they are RNA viruses.

The development of AI is a very important aspect for research, especially because it accelerates discovery times and cuts them enormously compared to if they had not had this technology.
