The governor of the Kaliningrad region Alikhanov did not see the point in renaming the region
The governor of the Kaliningrad region appreciated the idea of renaming the region into the Baltic Territory, and the regional center into Vladybaltiysk. He noted that he did not see any sense in it, specifying that there was no legal difference between the region and the territory, reports RIA News.
I advise you to turn to Sergei Mironov for clarification of what the content of this proposal is, except for changing the name. If it is, then we are ready to listen. What is the main meaning is not very clear
On July 4, the head of the Just Russia – For Truth party, Sergei Mironov, suggested thinking about renaming Kaliningrad in accordance with modern realities and domestic traditions. The politician believes that the city can be given the name Vladibaltiysk, and the Kaliningrad region – the Baltic Territory.

Russia appreciated the idea of renaming Kaliningrad
Oleg Nilov, First Deputy Head of the Just Russia – For Truth faction in the State Duma, said that the issue of renaming Kaliningrad could be considered after the completion of the special operation in Ukraine.
He noted that he himself was born and raised in the Kaliningrad region, but the accomplishments of the Soviet statesman Mikhail Kalinin do not seem to him so outstanding that the city would forever keep his name.
Time to rename the city, I think it will come. Someday. But at the initiative of the citizens of the region
Nilov added that the renaming would require “colossal expenses”, but it is possible to open a discussion on this issue. In particular, one should think about changing the status of the region, for example, by making Kaliningrad a city of federal significance, like St. Petersburg or Sevastopol, the deputy said.
“Communists of Russia” opposed the renaming, since the name keeps the memory of the Great Patriotic War. Cultural figures, honorary citizen of Kaliningrad, playwright Yevgeny Grishkovets and a native of the city, singer Lada Dance also did not see the point in the new name.
Andrey Kolesnik, a State Duma deputy from the Kaliningrad region, said that the issue of renaming Kaliningrad should be decided by the residents of the city themselves, so a referendum will be required to implement the idea. He stressed that now is not the best time to change the name of the region.
Andrey Klimov, Senator of the Federation Council, holds a similar opinion. The authorities of the Kaliningrad region considered that the discussion about renaming the region is inappropriate at the moment, and the regional center already has a worthy name. So the head of the press service of the regional government Dmitry Lyskov answered the corresponding proposal.

The situation around Kaliningrad
“Lithuanian Railways” notified Kaliningrad of the termination from June 18 of the transit of goods that fell under the sanctions of the European Union. The restrictions affected almost half of the entire range of goods, including building materials and metals.
The Russian Foreign Ministry demanded that these restrictions be lifted and warned that the response to the ban on transit through Lithuania to the Kaliningrad region would be practical, not diplomatic.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is determined in the situation with the transport blockade of Kaliningrad, but it is in no hurry to make decisions. On June 30, Moscow indicated that it was ready to wait for the decision of the European Commission on the rules for handling goods that fell under the ban on transit to Kaliningrad. Vilnius announced the imminent publication of such a document at the same time.
On July 4, the governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, announced that the Russian government and the presidential administration had been given a draft response to Lithuania’s ban on the transit of goods through its territory. He added that there are three ways to solve the issue of transit.
