The Council of Ministers has approved allocating 500 million euros in aid for the repair of supply, sanitation and purification infrastructures that were affected by DANA, in what the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has called a “plan against mud”.
Specifically, only in Valencia were they damaged up to 122 purification stations of wastewater. Of them, 96 are already operating, although with damage, and three are absolutely unusable and will have to be built from scratch. In addition, sewerage in various municipalities also presents problems, basically due to the clogging of small diameter collectors into which machinery cannot enter, as well as breaks in collectors main.
“We want to remove the mud as soon as possible to recover normality,” said Pedro Sánchez at the press conference after the Council of Ministers. “The task is colossal.”
Regarding the supply, sanitation and purification systems, it will be the Secretary of State for the Environment that will determine the list of the affected infrastructures and the amount assigned to each operator, based on the incidence of damage and the estimate of the cost of its repair.
Apart from direct aid, the Government approves the discharge control fee exemption. For this year the reduction in the control fee will be 20%, while in 2025, in principle, it will be 100%.
The exemption from the water use fee is also approved when they have suffered reductions in provisions caused by DANA.
