The Government has rejected the stopover at the port of Algeciras (Cadiz) of two US ships suspected of transport weapons and military supplies destined for Israel. The measure occurs two days after United Left (IU) will file a complaint with the State Attorney General’s Office, requesting an investigation into the transit of these ships through the Andalusian port.
According to the information advanced by The Countrythe vessels in question are the Maersk Denverwhich departed from New York on October 31 with a scheduled arrival in Algeciras on November 8, and the Maersk Seletarwhich set sail on November 4 and was scheduled to arrive on November 14. “They will not stop in Spain“, declared a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the aforementioned media.
According to this information, the Government affirms that, since October 7 of last year, has not authorized any arms sales to Israel nor has it allowed stops in Spanish ports for ships transporting weapons to Middle East.
IU points out a violation of Government agreements
The leader of IU and deputy of Add, Enrique Santiagoappeared this Tuesday at the State Attorney General’s Office after learning that “at least 1,185 ships with shipments of weapons and military supplies for Israel, coming from the United States”, would have transited through the Spanish port.
Enrique Santiago: “Allowing the transit of ships would be committing a crime against the law of nations, typified and punished in the Penal Code”
Santiago requested the State Attorney General’s Office to investigate and adopt preventive measures against the possible arrival of these two ships from the United States on November 9 and 15. He also warned that, if these transits were carried out, it would incur a crime against the law of nationstypified and sanctioned in the Penal Code.
The Sumar deputy also stressed that the transit of arms shipments through a Spanish port violates the agreements assumed by the Government to “eliminate any type of collaboration in the shipment of weapons to Israel.”
IU also submitted a written question to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The report mentions an investigation carried out by Progressive International (Progressive International) and Palestinian Youth Movementwhich indicates the existence of 1,185 shipments of military supplies from the United States that would have followed this route.
According to the study, the remittances sent would total around 13,000 metric tons and would include materials such as armored plates, vehicles and engines, as well as projectiles and various military equipment.
