The Government of Cantabria, through the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Luis Martínez Abad, has reiterated the commitment to support the City Council’s Christmas program de Cartes, which, in the opinion of its mayor, Agustín Molleda, “has become a first-rate tourist resource.”
The councilor, who held a meeting with the counselor, thanked him for this involvement and announced that the activities and proposals for this year they will be “totally different”and which among its attractions includes a ‘flying’ Santa Claus.

Molleda has been convinced that this Christmas proposal is going to be “a success for everyone.” In this sense, he has conveyed to the counselor that this type of offers should not be the “seal of promotion” of Cartes, but rather that “I believe that We must extend it to all of Cantabriasince we are talking about very profitable, safe tourism with the participation of thousands and thousands of people, as was demonstrated last year with the Christmas tree that attracted thousands of visitors,” he stated.
As reported by the Government in a press release, another of the topics addressed at the meeting is the enhancement of the Cartes Towers, and continuing to advance in the study of their possibilities of use and improvement in their conservation. Both Martínez Abad and Molleda have agreed analyze different projects and initiatives to achieve this purpose.
SPORT
For his part, the councilor has also thanked the Ministry for its commitment to sports in his municipality, with the construction of a new sports center which was already contemplated in this year’s budgets, and will have another item next year, and which will go out to tender next month.
In this regard, he highlighted that Cartes is the “youngest municipality in the region and we have about 900 children enrolled in our sports schools, so the new facilities are very necessary.”
