The Government is preparing to immediately suspend Pedro Rocha, the only candidate for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation (FEF), to prevent the Extremaduran leader from occupying the position that Luis Rubiales had to leave due to his kiss with Jenni Hermoso. The Secretary of State for Sports, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, announced this Tuesday that he will convene the board of directors of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) to decree the provisional suspension of Rocha after the Sports Administrative Court (TAD) has opened a disciplinary file for very serious misconduct.
The Government also intends to put to a vote the suspension of the entire FEF management commission, also filed by the TAD. Rocha could not be proclaimed president of the FEF on Monday after the challenge to the elections was admitted for processing after Rubiales's dolphin was charged in the so-called 'Operation Brody', the alleged corruption scandal that affects the federative body, with Rubiales as the main accused.
«Spanish football deserves that its representatives be guided by the principles of honesty and good governance. “I have conveyed to FIFA our concern and determination to adopt in a coordinated manner all the necessary measures to ensure that a reputational crisis like the one we are suffering does not occur again in the federation,” Rodríguez Uribes revealed before the Education Commission. Professional Training and Congress Sports.
Rocha may therefore be provisionally suspended by the CSD even before a probable disqualification by the TAD of the former interim president of the FEF for not having called elections in six months and having assumed functions that did not correspond to him. «There can be no more actions from the federation where its leaders exceed their limits. Spanish football must move away from behaviors that embarrass us all,” proclaimed Rodríguez Uribes after Rocha presented up to 107 endorsements (21 were needed) from the federative assembly to be designated the sole candidate for the presidency of the FEF. With Rocha already cornered by ordinary and sports justice, the former acting president of the FEF nevertheless considers suing for prevarication against the TAD and Rodríguez Uribes.
“The Government and the CSD are going to do everything in our power to redirect this unacceptable situation in the federation with firmness and respect for the law,” confirmed Rodríguez Uribes, whose body he presides is already fully capable of suspending Rocha after that the TAD has filed a case against him for a very serious infraction, thanks to a complaint filed by Miguel Galán, previously the whip of Ángel Villar and Luis Rubiales. “The Government's interest is to get to the bottom of it, to clear up all criminal and disciplinary responsibilities,” insisted the president of the CSD.
