The truckers maintain the strike, although they lower the tension and the traffic of vehicles in Escombreras and in the polygons is normalized
The mobilization of carriers on their ninth day of strike was characterized yesterday in the Region of Murcia by a calmer tone. Although that does not mean that they lower their claims one iota. So they continue the strike, as the National Platform for the Defense of the Transport Sector – the convening organization – has made clear, which demands that the Government of Spain receive them and attend to their requests for the reduction of the price of fuel and the improvement of the professional situation.
The Government Delegation intensified, in any case, the measures to keep the demonstrators at bay, for which it also denied the permission requested by the National Platform in Defense of the Transport Sector for the development of new protest caravans in Murcia with heads tractors and trucks throughout this week. Not having authorization, which could lead to significant economic sanctions, and also with the desire to open new avenues of dialogue, the participants finally chose not to go to the center of the city, despite having gathered for the march in New Condominium.
And it is that the tension experienced throughout the past week was lowered very significantly. To the point that the presence of pickets at strategic points, such as the port of Escombreras and in the industrial estates, was minimal. Therefore, the convoys were able to enter and leave normally, so that the truckers who wanted to work “moved without problems”.
The service stations say they have guaranteed supply, while in Mercamurcia the entry of goods rises
Impact on public services
The reports from the Civil Guard and the National Police were unfavorable to the march, as road safety was not guaranteed. Among the arguments that the legal services of the Delegation have used to deny the permit, it is pointed out that in the previous demonstrations “there have been multiple incidents in the normal functioning of the activities of the city, with effects on the emergency and hospital services , to public transport and a total circulatory collapse in the city that has made it difficult to access it and travel within it, both in a north-south and east-west direction. Therefore, they consider from the Delegation that if the caravans were authorized, “there would be traffic cuts on the main roads that would prevent or hinder the transit of all types of vehicles, including emergency services.”
They also point out that “the truck convoys carried out last week have caused direct incidents between citizens and protesters, as evidenced by the numerous calls made to the emergency services (092 and 112), so it could be considered that the reiteration of The inconvenience and difficulties caused to citizens could lead to conflict situations that affect citizen security and even lead to some alteration of public order.
In the city of Cartagena, however, dozens of truckers once again took to the streets, once again blocking traffic on the main avenues early in the morning.
But, beyond the visibility of the protest to the public, the reality is that there has been a significant reduction in conflict, given that the blockade has been eased. Now it remains to be seen what will happen these days in the face of latent discontent.
In Mercamurcia, the situation was very normal yesterday and the influx of vehicles rose to 3%. Fish and shellfish even arrived from Galicia after several days without doing so, and the entry of vegetables from Andalusia was recovered. For their part, the large distribution surfaces “work to adapt their assortment”, as reported by their employer Anged, which demands “an urgent solution”.
The president of the Association of Service Stations of the Region, José Baños, declared to Europa Press that, with the convoy that entered on Monday to load fuel in a “normalized way”, it is verified that the “supply is assured”, although he warned that “the price will become more expensive”, since in recent days “we have had to load in Alicante and Tarragona, so these trips will affect the cost of the product”. And he estimated the drop in sales “between 20% and 50%”, especially in agricultural and industrial areas.
The general secretary of the Regional Federation of Organizations and Transport Companies (Froet), Manuel Pérezcarro, which integrates the majority of merchants, pointed out that the offer of the central Executive “is absolutely insufficient”, with solutions “full of inconcretions” and who “arrive late”. In addition, he considers that the “management of the Government in this crisis is not the most appropriate.” And it is that “they say that they are going to facilitate 500 million euros”, but “the truth is that we do not know how that translates”.
“We do not trust the management, so we understand the desperation of our people, who wanted solutions,” adds Pérezcarro. For this reason, he concludes that the negotiation carried out has been a “total failure”.
