The Government calls on the PP to resume negotiations on migrant minors after fulfilling its conditions

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has summoned the PP and the governments of the Canary Islands and Ceuta to a meeting next week to agree on the reform of the Immigration Law that will allow the distribution of migrant minors.

Torres held meetings this week in Brussels and sent a letter to the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen, to insist on Europe’s support for the migration phenomenon, especially in border territories.

The presidents of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, have already shown their willingness to attend the new meeting. Torres, who chairs the Interministerial Commission on Immigration, demands this new meeting to “definitively” solve the situation of thousands of minors who are in territories such as the Canary Islands and Ceuta.

Last September, the PP blew up conversations about the distribution of migrant minors among communities, alleging that Spain was not requesting help from the EU on immigration matters, a gesture described by the PSOE as “one more excuse.” “implausible” of the popular ones to dynamite the negotiations.

The invitation for a new meeting comes after the Government sent a letter to the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in which it assured that “it has redoubled its intensity to care for the most vulnerable, boys and girls who “They have lost everything” and insists that “if caring for migrants is a priority, when they are unaccompanied minors, the priority is absolute.”

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory has met in Brussels with European representatives, including the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, to address the phenomenon of migrant children and explore new avenues of collaboration with the EU.

Torres also assures that, under the Operational Management Plan of Spain and the European Asylum Agency, work is being done on the possibility of relocation to other community countries of migrant boys, girls and adolescents seeking international protection, within a guarantee route with the best interests of the minor, one of the conditions that the PP had requested.

The letter to Von der Leyen also emphasizes collaboration with the countries of origin, with bilateral meetings with Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Egypt and Ethiopia.
